To raise honey bees only requires proper planning and strong commitment. Below are some guidelines so you get started in beekeeping.
How to Raise Honey Bees
1. Determine and select your equipment - Choose a quality hive. Make sure you get a hive that can support the number of colonies that you will support.
Additionally, you will need to select beekeeping gear for you to manage your bees. That beekeeping gear includes equipment like veils and gloves that protect you from the bees.
2. Make a selection of your honey bees - You will need a queen bee and worker bees to get started with.
Packaged set of bees are good for beginners and a mated queen bee. This will get you going.

3. A Proper Plan - Planning is the most important part of the process. Determine what you will need to do for every season (fall, winter, spring).
Then, properly plan. The warm weather months are the most active time for a beekeeper. If you are still not at spring, then start planning for it now. Make sure that you have everything that you need to ensure that you can start beekeeping in the spring.
4. Educate yourself - Get beekeeping guides and read as much as you can on beekeeping so once you start you are ready.
